When I was 11 years old, I changed schools quickly and fell in love with an international school next to my house. During the open day, I was captivated by the children who, at only six years old, were fluent in several languages. That day, I had a revelation: when I grew up I wanted to master languages with that ease.

At this school, languages were used to make friends and to share many things with people coming from all over the world. However, as I grew up and thanks to my teachers, I learned why it is good to know languages. It helps to better understand the other and to think like them. My philosophy is that “we can only work in the same direction if we are able to understand each other”. This is where the importance of translators and interpreters comes in.

Today, studying at ISIT, I continue to study languages in depth. I’ve already lived in Madrid for a year as an exchange student and I wanted to return to live like a true Madrilenian. Working in a translation agency was a “must”, I had to learn more about the work of the translator and his environment. AltaLingua is a well-known agency at my university and was recommended to me by other students.

I didn’t hesitate for a moment. I didn’t worry about whether everything would be okay with the AltaLingua team because already during the correspondence, they seemed serious, attentive and very friendly. The bar seemed high and I was more afraid of disappointment than of being disappointed.

I learnt a lot at AltaLingua, more than I could have imagined. I learned how to work with a computer-assisted translation program. I was able to see how a legal translator works and translates on various subjects: technical, advertising, legal, etc. I have evolved a lot in only eight months, especially in my translation speed, in my working languages and also in my mother tongue.

I have learned a lot about myself, because when I work on a translation, there is only the text and me. It can take as long as it takes, that I will end up finding the right word for each text. I have learned to overcome the frustration of starting to translate more complex texts. I feel professional
